I saw this poster in our gym. It’s an invitation for the 60-days challenge they run, appropriately, for the new year. Knowing that many of their customers join the gym around this time of the year, but drop out soon after, they are trying to keep members motivated, to stay longer. And it works!
As Zig Ziglar said “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”
This post is my attempt to motivate you (and myself) to persist at what you have planned to do this year. The New Year resolutions – they don’t have to be abandoned when the “going is getting tough” or boring. You just need to remember why you started in a first place, what is at stake, and what drives you.
You need to find your “spark”, and it may be easier than you think. Take a look at the poster from the gym, see if anything there touches you, that may apply to your life. Or you can create your own poster. Whatever you can do, just keep going …
Here are some ideas on what might spark you (why you are doing what you are doing):
- To be a better person, so you can be better for your family, children, parents – people closest to you
- To advance your career, so you can get more satisfaction and reward from your work
- To acquire new skills, so you can challenge yourself and have a richer life
- To be healthy, so you can feel great all the time
- To get in shape, so you can look good in the Spring and Summer
- To change something that you don’t like in yourself, so you wouldn’t have regrets later in life
- To prove to yourself that you can do it, so you feel more confident
- . . .
Whatever your reason is, it must be a personal one. If you feel that you need to do something because everyone is saying it’s the right things to do, you may not succeed. Until you believe in it yourself. So, as this new year progresses, let’s take this challenge and keep going!
